Evan Bayh to Join Fox News as Commentator

Former Blue Dog Democratic Senator Evan Bayh has been hired by Fox News as a paid contributor. You know, the same job description they use for Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin and, until recently, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. The former Indiana governor will provide political analysis and commentary.

As a former Hoosier, I find this nauseating but not altogether shocking. It would probably bother me more if I'd ever been under the delusion that Bayh was a liberal. Or a Democrat. In fact, I'm nursing a suspicion that this is a precursor to Bayh "coming out" as a Republican after having his fill of living a lie for all those decades.

When Bayh abruptly announced his retirement a little over a year ago, there was a lot of speculation that he was planning to mount a primary challenge against President Obama. This was a fairly laughable idea on its face, but now, I'm thinking maybe Bayh's going to throw his hat into the ring, after all.

As a Republican, of course.

Hey, he's at least as credible as Michele Bachmann.
